Scaling & Root Planing (Deep Cleaning)

What is Scaling and Root Planing?

Scaling and root planing is a non – surgical periodontal treatment. Scaling and root planing is a cautious cleaning of the root surfaces to remove plaque and tartar from deep periodontal pockets and to smooth the tooth root to remove bacterial poisons. Most periodontists would agree that in the wake of scaling and root planing, numerous patients don’t require any further effective treatment. However, most patients will require continuous maintenance treatment to support health.

Types of instrument use in a Deep Cleaning:

Basically, there are two types of scaling tools used by a specialist:

Hand-held instruments – Your specialist or periodontist will utilize a dental scalar and curette to physically expel the plaque from the teeth. Since the specialist or hygienist can’t see the plaque, they depend on touch to sense zones of tartar development and unpleasant spots.

Ultrasonic instruments – Ultrasonic scaling instruments clean plaque from the teeth with a vibrating metal tip that chips off the tartar and a water shower to wash it away and keep the tip cool.

Our periodontal gum disease specialist will be able to treat your gums with our state-of-the-art technology.

How does the Deep Cleaning (SRP) Benefits You?

Scaling and Root Planing includes the elimination of tartar, bacterial plaque, bacterial poisons and diseased cementum (the external covering of the root surface). The aim behind this therapy is to shrink periodontal pockets and cut down contamination so that further problem is handled by the immune system. We utilize the ultrasonic device and we line – up with uncommon hand instruments to rub away bacterial stores above and underneath the gumline.

Full mouth Scaling and Root Planing w/Laser treatment requires somewhere around 4 appointments.
